As computer-generated images, CAPTCHAs serve to tell computers and humans apart, their mathematical nature is opposed to an emotionally driven abstract painting. This series raises the question of how painting can reflect this method of image creation that looks arbitrary on the outside but is essentially determined by algorithmic rules of construction. The aesthetic paradox of the CAPTCHA is a conceptual starting point for her own painting, which poses visual riddles to the spectator. It is an attempt to find an adequate reply to computer visuality without actually using computers – by creating works that emphasize the hand-made nature, materiality, and subjectivity of painting itself.
